HOSTED BY DENIZEN @ THE PORTAL, MARIN (CA)
This event brings together Jasmine Rashid and Paul Rice, financial activists who recently published books sharing their work with the world. We will discuss the many ways that we can influence the economy through our financial decisions, in addition to exploring interventions beyond our personal finances for financial activism.
Jasmine Rashid is an Oakland, CA-based financial activist, writer, social movement scholar, and impact investing professional who believes deeply in people power. Her first book — "The Financial Activist Playbook: 8 Strategies for Everyday People to Reclaim Wealth and Collective Well-Being" — builds on her knowledge base as a Congressman John Lewis fellow, Just Economy Institute alum, Trauma of Money Method certified practitioner, and lived experience as a brown girl in her late 20s… just trying her best to navigate contradictions under capitalism (and help build something better).
Paul Rice is a pioneer in the conscious capitalism movement. He is the author of "Every Purchase Matters: How Fair Trade Farmers, Companies, and Consumers are Changing The World." He is also the founder of Fair Trade USA, the leading third-party certifier of Fair Trade products in North America. Paul’s story is a remarkable example of financial activism, showcasing how one can act from a non-governmental role to influence market dynamics.
Jasmine and Paul are very different in some ways: Jasmine is a young woman in her 20s, Paul a seasoned executive in his mid 60s. Yet they are also strikingly similar: they are both financial activists who recently left their full time jobs to pursue where their books will take them next. We’re excited to interweave their stories for this special event. The program will include breakout groups to allow participants to explore ways in which they might step into financial activism in their own lives.
