ANSWER: They’re all hard-won victories of labor movements around the world—rights we’ve fought for, not gifts we were given.

We celebrate May 1 to honor the 1886 Haymarket Affair in Chicago, where workers striking for the eight-hour workday faced brutal police violence.

Rooted in labor movements and working-class resistance, May Day has long been a rallying point for economic justice and collective action. Its connection to financial activism lies in this shared legacy—

challenging exploitative economic systems, demanding fair wages, and reclaiming power from concentrated capital 🌈

My hope is that my work builds on May Day’s spirit by drawing visibility to tools like investment, divestment, cooperative economics, and community wealth-building to redistribute power and resources toward a more just and equitable economy.

SO — using the eight financial activist strategies from my book – I wrote about some resources and tangible ways to ways to support workers this May Day (on my brand spanking new substack!!!!)
