🤔 What’s an “asset-based approach?”

Basically it means flipping the script from focusing on what’s missing, to building on what’s already strong.

• In the world of investing, it’s also a way to summarize the net value of a business (total assets minus total liabilities) 📈

• In organizing & community development, it’s the vital work of amplifying local strengths, skills, and resources (rather than external solutions focused on lack) ✊🏽

• And personally and collectively, when we take stock of our momentum (instead of waiting until we feel “ready”) we’re more likely to keep progressing forward ✅

In a world that constantly pushes scarcity, an asset-based approach could help shift the focus from what’s missing to what’s possible.

I’m currently playing with some simple ways to integrate an asset-based lens into my work.*

(*life? Whatever you want to call this adventure of trying to help everyday people to shift the flow of money and power towards collective well-being 🤗).

I’ll share learnings from this experiment next month. In the meantime, here’s me practicing what I preach 🤪 and sharing some of what went well for me in my first two months of no-longer-having-a-full-time-job.
