As Women’s History Month ends, I’m thinking a lot about women & the future of finance. You may have heard me talk before about this thing we’re entering called “The Great Wealth Transfer:" Baby boomers will transfer the US’s $140 trillion-with-a-T in wealth to younger generations through inheritance over the next few decades (hey fellow millennials/Gen Z). Listen — this is a BIG opportunity for reimagining our economy, especially recognizing that for the first time in modern financial history, women are set to emerge as the primary wealth holders in the economy, not men. But how do we ensure The Great Wealth Transfer means real change (and not just business-as-usual capitalism branded as "feminism")? How can we follow the leadership of everyday women and gender-non-confirming folks — working-class, middle-class, people of color, immigrants, elders, youth — who have for too long been left out of conversations about shaping the next economy? In addition to publishing The Financial Activist Playbook, I’m pushing myself waaaay out of my comfort zone this year to bring these conversations to the mainstream. I just submitted a main stage talk proposal (think TedX style) to SOCAP 2024 — the largest annual impact investing conference — happening this October in SF.
